The 2008 thriller, 'Untraceable' follows FBI worker, Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) on her hunt for a serial killer who broadcasts his muders through an online live stream to the world. This is in order to prove a point that the world lives under a mob mentality and enjoy seeing pain inflicted upon others, as the more hits the website gets the faster and more painfully he kills his victims. The trailer features many connotations of the genre. I.e. guns, police cars and dark lighting and colours. The costume is all very dark and plain in order to avert the audiences attention to the action and storyline. The film is very male dominated, aside from the female lead. This meant attraction for both male and female audiences. The film features a typical, deep american male voice over, which increases the intensity of the trailer, however titling is also used when the pace of the trailer increases. The trailer begins at sombre pace, with a solid state of equilibrium due to the apparent success of the cyber crime department of the FBI. However the equilibrium is soon disturbed as the FBI face a case that they cannot conquer. This distain allows the trailer to turn dark and slightly scarier than a usual thriller. The fast pace music allows for the trailer to build a climax towards the end, and leaves the trailer on a cliffhanger that will draw audiences in as they want to see how it ends.
We have drawn inspiration from this trailer as we like the use of the interent as it is current and relevant to a wide market of film watchers. We would like to highlight in our narrative the dangers of the internet, as we believe this will consequently make a chilling experience for viewers as it is so relevant to their own lives.
