When filming our trailer we used a Canon 5D Mark III in order to give our trailer the professional quality that you would see from a genuine film product.
When researching the camera features I found an overview on the canon website:
The features include high quality focus when shooting, giving 1080p level quality. The IOS features allowed us to shoot in darker conditions:
"The EOS 5D Mark III delivers superb picture quality whatever the lighting conditions. Keep shooting hand-held even after the sun goes down, thanks to an ISO 100–25,600 sensitivity range (extendable to ISO 102,400)."
We also liked the addition of the high quality sound feature:
"Give your video footage the soundtrack it deserves. The EOS 5D Mark III records digital stereo sound at 48KHz and offers manual control over audio level. A standard 3.5mm mic socket enables the use of third-party microphones; a headphone socket permits audio monitoring while recording."
Furthermore we used a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens. This was for the extreme close ups that we have included in the shooting of our trailer:
We used a jib to create a smooth steady shot when we pan or used high or low angled shots. Pictured below is a similar version of the equipment we used.
When we were filming, a challenge to over come was avoiding copious yellow light in the bedroom setting. The room and décor was yellow and cream based therefore the footage would've come out very yellow tinted and dark had we not used a panel light. The panel light provided white light, which also allowed us to have the look of daylight in the room. It also allows us to easily tint the colour scale of the footage when editing as the base is very white.
When filming darker scenes that needed focal light, especially on close ups when we wanted the faces illuminated, we used the torch feature on iPhones to create concentrated light as the panel light gave a general wash of light.
