Richard Dyer is an English university lecturer who came up with a theory based on entertainment being utopian.
He stated that entertainment is utopian in some sense - it expresses ideals about how human life could be organised and lived - entertainment is widely believed to provide escape offering something better than the realities of day to day life.
He created the utopian solution chart;
This states the problems on the left hand side and the utopian solution offered by entertainment on the right hand side.
