Conventions of Psychological Thrillers
Here, I will be exploring the key conventions of psychological thrillers, which we must consider heavily in our planning. Psychological Thrillers often contain mystery and drama, which is incorporated into the main themes of the film.
Reality
The characters are often left guessing what is real and what is
not.
The Mind
The narrative of built around the human mind, their personality, thought,
memory and emotion, for example. Characters usually battle with their own mind
as a source of narrative.
Identity
Characters sometimes struggle with their identity and doubt who
they are.
Death
As with most thriller genres, death is normally a part of the
narrative, whether the main character has a fascination with death or faces
death themselves.
Location
Location is often used to create a sense of realism, and so
every-day locations are used.
