In order to help us in our research for our psychological thriller, we made a survey to help us answer a few questions concerning our narrative.
Here is not only the questions that we asked, but the answers we received too. We sent the survey out to the whole upper school, as this is our target audience. 100 people completed the survey.
As we expected, most people know what a Catfish is, with some not being sure. The 27 who said that they didn't know what it was have made us realise that if we are to include the direct idea of a Catfish by using the word Catfish, then we need to make the meaning or definition clear to the audience.
Surprisingly, not everyone felt uncomfortable with the idea of someone pretending to be someone else online, with 19% saying that it didn't make them uncomfortable at all. This shows us how we need to emphasise the danger that comes with this concept, and use methods to perhaps make it look scarier if not everyone is initially scared by the concept.
We like the idea of our character faking her online identity for revenge, and so did our audience. However the other storylines were popular too, so we need to consider which one would be best to pursue.
We included this question to get some ideas of what shots to include as our trailer gets faster paced, where we're going to need a variety of storylines and concepts being shown. Being fined and facing prison were the most popular answers when asked what the punishment for our character should be. We will consider this in our planning and filming and will probably include these ideas.
The answers to this question have confirmed what we already thought about our character's name. We decided a list of possibilities and quickly realised that 'Scarlett Larkspur' was our favourite. We are pleased that our possible audience agreed with us. This will therefore be our character's name.
