As part of the planning process, we need to decide who our target audience is for our film. As the narrative of our trailer is based on the concept of online dating, false identity and all characters used in the trailer are aged 16-18 years, we have decided that our target audience is for boys and girls aged 15-25.
However, in our trailer we have not used any male characters and the main character is a female. Therefore, our film will be more specifically aimed at teenage girls as they will be able to relate easier to the characters as they are also female. We also want to appeal to teenage boys and we have done this through the use of the narrative as the concept of 'catfishing' is something young people can related to as it is a popular TV show for young people on MTV (Catfish: The TV show).
Catfishing:
On the internet, a "catfish" is a person who creates fake personal profiles on social media sites, pretending to be someone more outwardly appealing than his/her true self, by using someone else's pictures and false biographical information. These "catfish" usually intend to trick an unsuspecting person into falling in love with them.
We thought that it is young people that can relate 'catfishing' with more closely as research has shown that the majority of users of Facebook are below the age of 30.
In addition, young people are more likely to have wider friendship groups and friends from different schools and different areas and are likely to be more vulnerable and naïve to things such as online romances and relationships.
