Voice Over/Foley Sound

Why we used voice over in our trailer VS why there was no Foley Sound

In our trailer, in order to illustrate a clear narrative we used voice over, similar to the voice over used by the antagonist in We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011) where they tell the story from the point of the view of the 'insane' character. This provides a different perspective for a film, that differs from the usual narration and point of view of the protagonist.

We took the audio from clips and layered it over shots to create the voice over, so that the dialogue sounded natural and was performed instead of just recorded. In one instant in our trailer, a male's voice transforms into our antagonists voice in order to show the 'Catfish' theme of our film concept. We layered the end of the male voice over, and the beginning of the female voice over in order to create a voice transform, that delivers the creepy atmosphere that we wanted for our thriller.

As we used a lot of soundtrack, there was no need for a lot digetic sound. When there was digetic sound we used a microphone and recorded the sound live, like the tapping on the key board. We liked that the only digetic sound heard is the keyboard as it reflects on how dangerous and vital her 'catfishing' is to the narrative.
