Storyboarding Progress
Here are some pictures of our storyboarding
ideas so far (please excuse our awful drawings).
We want to include long shots and mid shots of her on her bed to show her isolated and depressed side, in order to contrast to her evil side.
As discussed in our 'storyboard blog' we have to include some shots of the computer screen to show not only her activity online, but just to link the theme of the internet with our antagonist.
Close-ups of our antagonist are going to be vital.
This is a shot that we definitely want to include. Not only does it signify everything our trailer is about (as it is a shot of a catfish, the literal term for what our antagonist is) but it is also quite artistic and clever. We may use this shot to represent a state of equilibrium.
We want to include shots of our antagonist in her 'victims' bedrooms, in order to create a state of complete disequilibrium. Here we will use low angle shots to emphasise her 'power', as well as long shots sitting on other peoples beds.
Something that we have seen in other trailers is the antagonist standing in the street, usually in a creepy setting, in darkness for example. We would like to shoot this in a long shot.
Close-ups and extreme close-ups of our antagonist typing on her keyboard will be useful to shoot and include in our trailer as they show the secrecy.
A panning shot around her head, something we're very interested in doing. We will have to acquire the right equipment to pull this off as we can't be doing with any shaky camera work.
We have seen plain and simple signifiers in psychological thriller trailers, shots that don't necessarily contribute to the narrative, but to the meaning. It appears as though this is a convention of this genre, so we want to include a few shots like this as our trailers pace builds.
Something else that we noticed in other trailers is the antagonist looking very out-of-the-ordinary. Our idea of our antagonist in the shower, with drenched wet hair is not exactly original, but it is undoubtably effective in this genre and so we want to include this.
We want to show the idea that all of this corruption is happening from our antagonists home. So at some point we really want to include a long shot of a house, completely explodes and isolated.
In order to display our antagonists paranoia we want to create a scene where a hallway is completely filled with people taunting her, through a point-of-view shot. This will be deliberatlly over the top to display the exaggeration in her mind.
Although we do not have a drawing (we haven't quite figured out how to draw it yet), we will include high angle shots of our antagonist, as if to create a 'webcam' view. We want to have her talking to the camera, explaining what she is doing and why she is doing it. We think this will add structure throughout the trailer, as well as being effective to the mood and feel.
These are our initial storyboarding ideas, we still need to progress with them and decide on a structure and order, as well as more shots.
