Our main focus for our film poster and web page is to convey the theme of false identity, social networking and the ability to 'hide behind' a computer screen in order to keep their true self hidden.
Therefore, in order to be able to do this successfully we researched into films that used social networking sites and the idea of false identity in their films so that we could find ways to make it clear to our target audience what the main concept of our film is.
This poster is for 'Catfish' the movie. It is clear as soon as you look at the poster that the film is about social networking and false identity as they use the iconic font of Facebook and the iconic blue colour of the social networking site. Furthermore, the boy's eyes in the top third of the poster are clearly concentrating on a screen which makes the audience think that he is, at the time, using a social networking site. His face then merges into a girl's lips, chin and hair which gives the impression that he is using the false identity of a girl. The creators of the poster have also used post production to make the images on the poster to look like a screen and have also included a black arrow curser which is hovering over a 'confirm' button which is linking back to the concept of social networking and accepting friend requests who you may not know.
Overall, this poster for 'Catfish' the film is clearly about the use of technology, the internet, social networking and false identity which are all things that we want to display on our film poster as effectively as the 'Catfish' poster has.
This is the website homepage for 'Catfish'. The images used are completely different to those used for the poster but are still very relevant to the themes of the film. The oversized black arrow curser moves as you use your mouse which makes it more interactive and creates the feel that you are the
controller of the website. They have used the outline of an actual catfish which ties directly to the name of the film and have included the tagline at the top of the page, "How well do you know your Facebook friends?", which provokes immediate thought for the user and also links to the theme of hidden identity.
Both the poster and the website for 'Catfish' can be used as inspiration for our film poster and web page as our film includes many similar ideas such as use of the internet, social networking and hidden identity in order to deceive another person.
